Colonial Seal’s Mechanical Seal Division Expands

Colonial Seal would like to welcome the newest addition to our sales team, Frank Jasionowicz! Frank is our new product manager for mechanical seals. He is also responsible for business development, sales and procurement. With the help of Frank, our customers will be provided design, selection and engineering support. "I'm thrilled to be joining the Colonial Seal staff," says Frank Jasionowicz. "My entire career has been spent in the mechanical seal industry and I look forward to providing the best solutions to our current and future customers."

Frank is a graduate of the Naval Nuclear Power School and has served for 6 years in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Machinist Mate. There he maintained and operated machinery on nuclear submarines. With over 25 years of experience as a salesman at John Crane Inc., he designed and recommended mechanical seal systems to support numerous projects in the refinery, chemical and power industries. He also presented specialized seminars on mechanical seals in the waste water, power, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. Over these years he developed expertise in the following pumps: IDP, IR, Flowserve, Union, Goulds, Duriron, Myno, Mono, ITT, AC, Aurora, Blackmer, Dean, Deming, Fybroc, Gorman Rupp , Lawrence, Liquiflo, Morris, PACO, Peerless, Sulzer, Vaughn, Waukesha, Zoeller, Carver, Johnston, Fristam, Triclover, Viking, Lightning, and Ekato.

Some individuals without Frank’s expertise may wonder what the exact functions of mechanical seal may be. In general, a mechanical seal is a piece of equipment which enables the user to connect systems or mechanisms while stopping leakage in a structure that contains pressure. Many mechanical seals are used for pumps in the fluid handling business. The mechanical seal seals the shafts of pumps, mixers, and agitators. The main friction occurs in the axial direction, between seal rings which are lapped to a high precision. Springs (or bellows) compensate in axial direction for the wear. Although the technology of mechanical seals is by no means new, (having been used in various industries for decades) it has been proven to be effective, safe, and reliable. From home heating circulating pumps to 380C hot hydrocarbons pumps at oil refineries, the raging needs for mechanical seals are all around us.

Frank will now be an essential part of our efforts to grow our mechanical seals division. Colonial Seal is able to provide a wide range of replacement mechanical seals for U.S. Seals, PAC-Seal, Apex, John Crane, AES, Burgmann, Flowserve, ITT Flygt, ITT Grindex, Gormann-Rupp, Godwin, Honda, Terex, and Alpha Laval due to an exclusive agreement with Vulcan Seals Inc. (a UK based company.) Since 1986, Vulcan Seals has established worldwide distribution centers, including one in the USA.
